Dr. Planer is from Gastonia, NC. He received his undergraduate degree in Biology from UNC-Chapel Hill. He continued his graduate education at UNC and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) where he graduated with honors in the top ranks of his class and was a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon, National Dental Honor Society. In 2012, Dr. Planer earned a general practice residency certificate with the MAHEC Dental Health Center in Asheville, NC. It was living in the Asheville area during his residency program where he and his wife fell in love with the mountains of western North Carolina and decided to live and raise their family here.
Dr. Planer is thrilled to be serving Hendersonville and the surrounding communities. He is actively involved in organized dentistry and a board member of the prestigious NC Academy of General Dentistry. He served as the co-chair of the NC AGD MasterTrack Continuing Education program for 5 years which provides advanced learning opportunities to dentists across the state. Further, Chris belongs to a Spear Study Club and is active in the local and State dental societies. Outside of dentistry, he enjoys good BBQ and loves to travel. He is an athlete who enjoys soccer, tennis, golf, and running.
Chris is not the only dentist in the family as his wife Dr. Jessica Planer is also a dentist. Chris and Jessica are parents to two daughters, Carsyn born in 2020 and Avery born in 2022. Rounding out the group of girls in the Planer household is Flossy, their miniature Labradoodle, who you may see around the office from time to time.
Dr. Jessica is a born and raised North Carolinian. She attended college at UNC-Chapel Hill and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish – a language that you will still hear her speaking with her patients! She stayed in Chapel Hill for dental school and then moved to Asheville to attend the MAHEC General Practice Residency Program. Dr. Jessica is still a faculty member with MAHEC and enjoys teaching both dental residents and UNC dental students.
Dr. Jessica is an active member of the American Dental Association, the North Carolina Dental Society, and the Academy of General Dentistry. She was the former president of the Buncombe County Dental Society and holds a leadership position in the North Carolina Academy of General Dentistry. She has been an active member of both the Spear and Seattle Study Club. Jessica is committed to continuing education and learns just as much from her residents and dental students as she teaches them!
Dr. Jessica is friendly, gentle, and has an easygoing personality. She enjoys being physically active and played almost every sport you could think of growing up. Outside of work you can find her riding her Peloton bike or enjoying the outdoors with Dr. Chris, their daughters, and their dog Flossy.
